Problem: The original Cincinnati Milacron control system was difficult to support. The age of this control made parts hard to find, if they could be found, and prone to excessive downtime.
Scope: We took the existing prints and created a new design to replace the Acramatic control with the Fanuc 0i CNC. We setup the parameter table for this specific application and wrote customer ladder logic for machine operations such as the tool changer.
Notes: In order to make this project affordable for the end customer, we left all the motors and drives in place. Like most control only retrofits, some difficulty existed in reusing the drives due to technology differences in the control types. This required additional effort extended startup time but was successful and the customer was happy with their investment.
